Be willing to shed parts of your previous life. For example, in our 20s, we wear a mask; we pretend we know more than we do. We must be willing, as we get older, to shed cocktail party phoniness and admit, ‘I am who I am.’

‘Mask’ wasn’t the version that I wanted when it was originally released. It made money, but it would have made a lot more money. My version was a lot less depressingtragic, but a lot less depressing.

If you see someone on a plane with an eye mask, sleeping, that’s probably me, because that’s pretty much where I live.

Celebrity is a mask that eats into the face.
