‘LIFE Magazine‘ decided to do a story about a young actress in Hollywood in 1954. And I made the cover. And I remember that the fellow who was doing the story on me said, ‘Listen, kid, I just want you to know, if Eisenhower gets a cold, you’re off the cover.’
I can wear a hat or take it off, but either way it’s a conversation piece.
I wanted pretty pictures of older women – women who are trying too hard but succeeding – pulling off an extreme look. What I didn’t know would creep into the portraits was a vulnerability behind the strong facade that most of them wear.
I took this ‘how to build computers’ course basically because I’m sick and tired of getting ripped off by cheesy computer companies. Software baffles me. I like hardware. I used to change my own oil, and now I want to build my own computer so I can have what I want.
If you’re lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he’s never going to come off the field second.
I’ve had problems with my eyes, and my legs hurt if I walk a great deal. That’s due to very bad circulation. It’s called claudication, and it’s painful. So I have to stop if I’m walking, and pretending I’m looking in the window, so that I can rest them a little bit and then start off again.
I tried singing. I tried playing a musical instrument. I really wanted to be a musician, but I never could quite pull that off. I liked entertaining, but I was always drawn to some kind of technical work – some kind of honest labor.
We cannot put off living until we are ready.
I don’t understand the whole dating thing. I know right off the bat if I’m interested in someone, and I don’t want them to waste their money on me and take me out to eat if I know I’m not interested in that person.
So most astronauts getting ready to lift off are excited and very anxious and worried about that explosion – because if something goes wrong in the first seconds of launch, there’s not very much you can do.
I decided that what I really wanted to do was go off and paint.
Football is about sacrifice, dedication, a lot of work, and friendship off the pitch.
All I want to do when I have time off is to have a laugh with my school friends and go down the pub.
I like Lil Wayne‘s style. His style probably influences me the most. Basically, he’s just wearing exactly what he feels like wearing. He goes to the club, and he’s got shorts and a wife-beater on. That shows you what type of celebrity he is and what he is able to pull off, fashion-wise. I try to be in that same lane.
You have to respect your parents. They are giving you an at-bat. If you’re an entrepreneur and go into the family business, you want to grow fast. Patience is important. But respect the other party… My dad and I pulled it off because we really respect each other.
My schedule goes: wake up, running, exercise, downstairs, running shoes off, then to the shower. That’s the Jackie Chan diary.
Being hip, being popular, being cool, that’s really easy. Until you have to make tough decisions. And when you have to make tough decisions, that veneer of coolness comes off real quick.
I am a simple person, I try to do my best on the pitch and do nothing wrong both on and off the pitch.
Too often, these comedy guys now only care about getting on and then getting off and getting rich.
Yarn, patterns, and needle sizes have come such a long way since your grandmother‘s afghans. Creatively, there is just so much to get into, so much to play with. It’s an amazing way to turn inward and get off your phone.
Turn off your email; turn off your phone; disconnect from the Internet; figure out a way to set limits so you can concentrate when you need to, and disengage when you need to. Technology is a good servant but a bad master.
The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.
If my leg falls off, I’ll get a prosthetic. There’d be no deep sadness about. I’d just get on with it! It’s called life, and I love life. You have to be positive, and you have to crack on no matter what.
The journey has definitely not been easy, but all the sacrifice has paid off very well in terms of my performance on-court.
No matter how good you are at planning, the pressure never goes away. So I don’t fight it. I feed off it. I turn pressure into motivation to do my best.
